In the Australian Curriculum, students develop Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability as they learn to use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively in all learning areas at school and in their lives beyond school.

ICT capability involves students:

* learning to make the most of the digital technologies available to them,

* adapting to new ways of doing things as technologies evolve, and

* limiting the risks to themselves and others in a digital environment.

A large part of our commitment to our students is to help prepare them for a future where the use of ICTs will increasingly be a part of everyday life at work, home and play.

At Severnlea every student has access to an individual laptop that they can use at school.

In addition, we have a plan to increase the number of I-pads for students to access for use during focussed small group learning, and to provide assistive technologies for students who struggle to learn in the more traditional ways.

In partnership with our P&C, we plan to purchase several more I-pads in 2022.

Some of the many skills that students can expect to learn over the course of their 7 years of Primary School at Severnlea includes:

* Responsible use of ICT equipment.

* Decision making about the best and most reliable sources of information when researching using the internet.

* Cyber safety when engaging with others in on-line environments.

* Navigating and searching for resources and information on the internet using a variety of search engines.

* Using online educational games to develop skills such as using a mouse or mouse pad, opening and closing windows, navigating through web pages, responsible decision making, creating and editing text, etc.

* Learning keyboarding skills and using publishing software to present work that they have created.

* Using a range of on-line educational resources such as Reading Eggs and Mathletics to develop their skills and problems solving capabilities,  but to also engage them in their learning.
